Web Based Information Mastery Course

A module based course aimed at helping novices understand how to read the literature critically. It can be taken in several sessions each lasting from 1 - 2 hours. Mark Ebell, MD at Michigan State University developed it.

 

 How to critically review a journal article - an EBM approach

A series of articles in JAMA and the BMJ that present a critical approach to reviewing a journal article and keeping up with medical literature.

You will need to have the Proxy Server set up in order to get access from outside the UConn Health Center.

 

Family Medicine POEMS

A compilation of the "Patient Oriented Evidence that Matters" section of the Journal of Family Medicine. This site is organized by issue of Publication and has does not have search capacity.

 

ACP Journal Club - Evidence Based Medicine

A monthly online journal focusing on adult medicine. This can be viewed each month and a search engine is available to access past issues and other articles in the ACP Journal Club.

 

Bandolier

A source of evidence based reviews that have been compiled regarding common presenting complaints to a primary care physician practice. It is best to go to the index page to search for appropriate trials.

 

Cochrane Database 

The Cochrane Library is an electronic publication designed to supply high quality evidence to inform people providing and receiving care, and those responsible for research, teaching, funding and administration at all levels.

Clicking on this will open a Web search engine at Lyman Library. From there you can choose from several different search options to get full text materials. You will need to have the Proxy Server set up in order to get access from outside the UConn Health Center.

 

Cochrane Abstracts

This is an Web version of the Cochrane Library organized by working group. It includes abstracts only. It does not require a Proxy Server.
